How to care for your jewellery and jewellery allergies

I have sensitive skin. Will your jewellery be okay?

We sell Nickel free jewellery and hypoallergenic jewellery, meaning that it is very unlikely to cause skin irritation, even to sensitive skin. We pride ourselves on creating beautiful jewellery for sensitive skin.

What does hypoallergenic mean?

This is a term used to imply that the materials used are unlikely to cause an allergic reaction. Or that the materials are void of 'allergens'

Does your jewellery contain Nickel?

None of our jewellery contains nickel. Nickel is the most frequent cause of allergic reactions in jewellery. Meaning skin irritation and redness can appear.

How should I take care of your jewellery so it will last a long time?

The general jewellery care rules are:

Make sure you keep your jewellery as dry as possible, so this includes taking it off to shower or bath, removing it when you swim in the sea or pool. Jewellery does not like the wet and this can cause metals to tarnish.

Never spray hairspray, perfume or other solvents on or near your jewellery again this can damage the metals.

Put your jewellery on last when dressing as this will avoid clasp and chains catching and snagging clothing as well as stopping breakages.

How should I store my jewellery?

Try to keep your jewellery in a cool / dry place, away for harsh sunlight and heat as this can cause discolouration and tarnish and fade the metals used.

Also consider keeping items separate to avoid items becoming entangled with one another and also materials rubbing against each other which will create marks and dents.

What materials are your jewellery made of?

(Rachel can you help me with this bit) talk about stones natural and artificial etc.. CZ diamante etc...

What is costume jewellery?

Costume jewelry, also known as fashion or imitation jewelry, is a type of accessory crafted from less expensive materials like base metals, glass, plastic, or synthetic stones, rather than precious metals and gemstones. It's designed to be trendy and affordable, often mimicking the look of fine jewelry.

Why do you use faux pearls?

Here at Lovett & Co our aim is to give you affordable and (where possible) sustainable jewellery. Pearl farming can be un-ethical, bad for animal welfare and have a negative impact on the environment. So we use imitation / 'faux' glass pearls in our jewellery. That way you get a piece of jewellery at an affordable price that is sustainable jewellery.
