Queen of Bling and Statement Jewellery- Liz taylor
This month we pay homage to the great late Dame Elizabeth Rosemond Taylor.
Born in 1932 she was a British and American actress who's exciting and vibrant film career was equally matched by her very public private life.
her greatest love.....
Elizabeth Taylor was a fairly freshed faced youg actress but she soon turned into the seductress and sultry screen idol most notably in 'Cat on a hot tin roof' (1958) which she recalled as her 'high point', it was in her role as Maggie that she sizzled and shone.
Not lot long after that she played opposite her husband to be Richard Burton in the block buster 'Cleopatra' (1963).
Richard was to become the on off love of her life and in that film we saw, like her character her love of opulence and colourful jewels and statemtent jewellery become apparent.
Richard bestowed her with lavish jewels and expensive statement jewellery further fueling her passion for all things sparkly and bold. Her style was very much more is more and this really stood her apart from many of the other actresses of her time who were far more less is more and quite demure in their dressing.
HER STATEMENT JEWELLERY
One of Elizabeth's favourite brands was Bulgari who were really well known for their statement jewellery using bright jewels and stunningly set diamonds.
These statement emerald and diamond drop earrings (below) were a gift from Richard and she wore them to greet Queen Elizabeth in Washington
“Statement Jewellery has the power to be the one little thing that makes you feel unique.”
Emeralds and Diamonds seem to be a big theme for Elizabeth and she always mae sure that she adorned herself in jewels from head to toe literally, as we can see from this total look below where she wears the statement jewellery diamond and emerald tiara, earrings and brooch again from Bulgari
"You can't cry on a diamond's shoulder, and diamonds won't keep you warm at night, but they're sure fun when the sun shines."
Later on in her life and multiple marriages later her othet love became Cartier again a brand well known for it's exquisite diamond and statement jewellery. This time though Rubies were the name of the game.
Other jewellery brands that Elizabeth loved were Van Cleef & Arpels and Tiffany. She loved unique statement jewellery, pieces that were slightly quirky and told a story. Very much like The Duchess of Windsor (Wallis Simpson) her love of jewellery and finer things defined her and after both their deaths their jewellery became highly sort after and were auctioned off to weathly buyers.
Iconic women best known for thier jewelery collections and their marriages.
her 'baby' a statement ring
This ring bought again by Richard Burton as a gift. Known as the Krupp diamond it is 33.19 carats and D flawless. Elizabeth notably refered to it as 'my baby' and we can clearly see why.
It is without doubt that her iconic style and love of statement jewellery has made it's impression in history and inspired generations to come with her love of all things bright and wonderful. Even in her later years when some of us our starting to 'tone down' our looks she shone vibrantly and continued to wear her expensive statement jewellery.

The key to making this look work is to not go for it half hearted but to have the confidence to be bold in your choices wear one large statement jewellery piece with complimentary other pieces. The only rule is to stick to one era / style or one colour combination. Where them with confidence and let your inner bling shine...
